Did washing in the morning, then had pancakes at a café for breakfast – very nice. I then set out to organise getting to Stewart Island. I discovered I’d have to spend a night at Invercargill, cutting my time on Stewart Island to one day, since all the busses from Duneding to Invercargill arrive in the afternoon after the last transfers to Stewart Island, and since I had to be on the Milford Track on the 25th.
I wandered round town most of the day, developed and posted some photos. The weather cycled between rain, clouds and sun. In the arvo, it was sunny enough to dry out my boots and tent. I had mexican for dinner and went and packed my pack from hike mode to travel mode. - That‘s one problem with hiking I’ve found, you’re constantly re-packing your gear.
